We’ve got ourselves a screamer.

I’m not sure what has happened in the month since I posted about my dear sweet Little Zoom. Preschool has started for Big Zoom, the seasons have finally begun to change, and our little guy has turned into a downright screamer.

The sound is piercing. It cuts right through your eardrum and shoots out your eyeballs with such ferocity. And that’s when he’s across the room. When a yelp erupts as he sits on your hip, you can be sure a temporary deafness will commence for a several seconds.

In fairness, the poor guy has had two virusus in the last month, is cutting a molar, and has been on the cusp of walking and really babbling. He’s probably intenslely frustrated with his inability to walk just yet, and his inability to communicate exactly what he wants. He’s also probably a little bored.

I got some good advice from a friend today and decided to put out some fresh toys, a couple of tupperware containers and spoons, and turn on the toddler music station. Sure enough, Little Zoom loved the one-on-one attention and new toys. No screaming for an entire 15 minutes. We’ll surely be taking this approach more often.

Anybody else out there dealing with (or remember) the 13 month old screaming fits? I vividly remember googling this same topic just after Big Zoom’s first birthday so I know this phase will pass, but I’m not sure my ears can take much more!
