We have many rooms in our current house that need attention. In fact, in some way they all need attention. I’ve been assured time and time again that slowly but surely a house becomes a home, but after almost two years in our current house I still find myself staring a mostly empty walls. I can’t seem to pull the trigger on any “art” and we mostly decorate with photographs. In anticipation of Big Zoom entering preschool this fall, I’ve been turning to Pinterest for artwork display and playroom decor inspiration.

We had a playdate last week with some neighborhood friends and because I had my camera, I finally snapped some pics of this clothesline picture display. This hallway is probably 20 or 30 feet long and is lined with recent pictures of this family. I just love how sweet it looks going all the way down the hall and I love that their 2 and a half year old can inspect the pictures on a daily basis. Also, they’re so easily interchangeable! Great idea!

They also have this genius magnetic wall for displaying all of their son’s artwork. I, new to toddler artwork display techniques, asked a million questions and just couldn’t quite grasp the mechanics of this for a good 10 minutes. Now I feel silly because I’m about to tell you it’s just a magnetic primer that was applied and then painted over with a latex paint to match the surrounding walls. Duh.

This display looks awesome, and again is so easy to change around whenever you feel like it. At one point I think there were a couple dozen pictures from this couple’s pre-kid traveling days which was a great conversation piece and really fun to look at. They’ve got this wall tucked in the corner of their kitchen and I think it’s such a fun place to display all the art their son brings home.

We’re on a mission to finish Big Zoom’s “big boy” bedroom by Christmas. I’m thinking a magnetic wall in his room might work really well and I can see him being so excited to hang up all the new creations he brings home from preschool. Stay tuned.
Great ideas! YHL used the magnetic primer a few years back – check it out! http://www.younghouselove.com/2010/07/office-progress-a-new-home-for-the-wallflowers/
I am with you – we have been here almost four years and we are still looking at blank walls. I really want to put up some collections of frames with artwork/personal photos and make it feel more like home! Let’s hold each other accountable and do something about it!
