Big Zoom: A day in the life.

This kid has got it pretty good. On a particularly gray day last week, I decided I’d whip out the camera and play around with shooting inside. After I uploaded the pictures and scanned through them, I realized I’d managed to capture a pretty good snapshot of a day in the life of Big Zoom (age 2).

The word obsessed isn’t strong enough for his fascination with automobiles. Trucks, trains, plans, tractors, bicycles, motorcycles, wheelbarrows. You name it, we’ve YouTube’d it. We’re really into race cars right now, as you can see above.

Just to give you an idea of the big picture, at this particular moment he’s watching race cars on the computer and Fireman Sam on the television. And I used to be so uptight about television…

When I’ve decided he’s killed enough brain cells and I can’t take one more repeat of the footage of firetrucks leaving a Manhattan firehouse, we move on to painting. These Dot Dot paints are seriously awesome. Washable and so much easier to clean up than regular paint. We love them!

Lunch is taken in a semi-naked state, which I didn’t manage to shoot. But I did grab this shot of Big Zoom waking up from his nap and thought his face too funny not to share. I had anticipated stealthily sneaking into his room to grab some sweet shots of him sleeping, but the focusing mechanism on my lens woke him up. He was not a happy camper.

He perked right up when I brought him down for a post nap snack and cuddle. See his pals all lined up there? Must haves for cuddle time: green froggie, monster trucks 1 and 2, crackers, sippy cup, and airplane.

And when the day is done and he’s all clean and smells like sweet baby shampoo, we give him a big bowl of strawberry ice cream. He takes his ice cream (and yogurt, strangely) in this one spot on the kitchen floor.

Love of ice cream is passed down from my side of the family. It’s quite possible that I ate 2 gallons a week while pregnant.

All in all, I’d say that’s a pretty sweet day. Cars, art projects, naps, and ice cream. This kid really does have it good.
